Rosenberg to Provide Ice and Water

The City of Rosenberg is partnering with Lowe’s Corporation, a community partner, to help Rosenberg residents affected by Hurricane Ike.

The City will work with Lowe’s to set up a point of distribution (POD) for water and ice. At 9:30 am, we will give away ice and water to those in need at the Lowe’s along Hwy 36 and Hwy 59.

Rosenberg Police patrol vehicles will enter neighborhoods without power to make sure those residents are aware of the location and time of the distribution.

This POD will give away ice and bottled water for as long as there is a need in our community and resources are available.

Those requiring greater assistance than the City is able to provide should call the statewide information number at 211, or call FEMA at 1.800.621.3362.

Mezzanotte & Capriccio - Want To Help

From Mezzanotte & Capriccio:

Dear friends,

We realize that many of you are still out of power, phone service, etc. We are very fortunate that both of our restaurants are open and operating so we have power and water. We want to help as much as we can so please feel very free to stop by either restaurant:

Ice: please bring a bag just in case we run out of ours.
Water: bring your containers as we don't have larger to go containers for liquids.
Internet access: our phone system is not working at Mezzanotte but we have Internet access. Bring your laptop and we will give you our security key so that you can connect to pay bills, check messages, etc.
Internet and phone: our phone system is working at Capriccio so you can make calls from there. Our Internet access is also working so you can also bring your laptop.
Refrigeration: If you have medicines that need refrigeration you can bring them to either restaurant and we will keep them cold for you. Just label them with your name.

We really don't know how else we can help but if you let us know of some special need we maybe able to. Even though our Mezzanotte phone system is not working (no line) we can still retrieve voice mail messages. Capriccio's phone system is fine.

Hours of operation are:
Mezzanotte: Mon - Fri: 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM and 5:00 PM - 9:00 PM. Saturday: 5:00 PM - 10:00 PM

IKE VICTIMS MAY QUALIFY FOR EMERGENCY FOOD STAMPS

Texas will provide emergency food stamps to Hurricane Ike victims who qualify, Texas Health and Human Services Executive Commissioner Albert Hawkins announced today.

The commission received a federal waiver to assist low-income residents and families living in any of the 29 counties declared disaster areas.

Eligible Texans can receive up to two months of food stamp benefits by calling 2-1-1 or applying at any HHSC benefits office by Oct. 17. A family of four earning as much as $2,915 a month may qualify for assistance.

Applicants must provide identification and proof of residence, such as a drivers license, and answer questions about household income and resources.

Current food stamp recipients living in the disaster area will get replacement benefits. HHSC automatically will replace a portion of September benefits, a step that is expected to help more than 500,000 people in areas where power outages or flooding are likely to have damaged or destroyed food supplies.

Food stamp benefits are placed on a Lone Star card, which recipients use like a credit or debit card to purchase groceries. Recipients in the disaster area do not need to visit an HHSC office for the replacement benefits. They automatically will be placed on their Lone Star cards later this week, HHSC said.

The federal government also granted permission for hurricane victims to use food stamps to purchase hot, ready-to-eat foods, items that normally are not allowed under federal rules.

Texans can find the locations of HHSC benefits offices by calling 2-1-1 or visiting www.hhsc.state.tx.us. They are encouraged to call 2-1-1 or the office number to verify that the office has power and is operating.

HHSC also is working to establish alternate office locations, which will be posted on the HHSC Web site.

The federal waiver applies to the following counties: Angelina, Austin, Brazoria, Chambers, Cherokee, Fort Bend, Galveston, Grimes, Hardin, Harris, Houston, Jasper, Jefferson, Liberty, Madison, Matagorda, Montgomery, Nacogdoches, Newton, Orange, Polk, Sabine, San Augustine, San Jacinto, Trinity, Tyler, Walker, Waller and Washington.
