SPECIAL DEALS FOR HURRICANE IKE VICTIMS

As Houstonians continue to experience life without power and extended school closures, many businesses are providing special discounts and offers to give Hurricane Ike victims some relief from the stress of the storm.

Below are some special deals being provided by some Houston businesses and organizations:

Downtown Aquarium is pleased to serve as a place of relief and entertainment for families. Downtown Aquarium is offering a discounted $5 all-day ride and exhibit pass today through Friday, Sept. 19. Downtown Aquarium is also open for lunch and dinner.

The Houston Dynamo plan to proceed with their scheduled match against the San Jose Earthquakes Saturday at Robertson Stadium, kicking off at 7 p.m. Gates will open at 6 p.m. In an effort to help locals recover from Hurricane Ike, the Dynamo will offer free tickets to children 14 years old and younger. Other tickets will be just $10, with all proceeds going to Houston- and Galveston-area youth soccer organizations affected by the hurricane. Tickets will be available from the box office at Robertson Stadium on Friday from 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 3:00-7:00 p.m. The Dynamo and the University of Houston will also offer free parking to fans. Pre-issued tickets will be honored. Firemen, police officers, and any first responders will be admitted free of charge by showing their badges.

The Houston Symphony will make available several hundred free tickets for both the Saturday and Sunday afternoon performances. The tickets will only be available on a first come – first served basis at the Jones Hall box office an hour before the 2:30 p.m. performances.

The John P. McGovern Museum of Health & Medical Science, also known as The Health Museum, will re-open on Wednesday, Sept. 17 with regular business hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Health Museum's water and power has been restored and the Museum is ready to serve visitors. As a gesture of support for the community, a discounted $3.00 admission free and free parking will be offered to all Museum guests through Sunday, September 21, 2008. Museum members visit for free as always. This week alone, Free Family Thursday will be limited to 2 – 5 p.m. The Museum offers a variety of exhibits for the entire family including the Amazing Body Pavilion; the high-tech, interactive YOU: The Exhibit; and the new McGovern Theater which offers the only 4-D film experience in Houston.
