Anheuser-Busch and Silver Eagle Distributors Partner with City of Houston, Provide Water to Areas Impacted by Hurricane Ike

More than 400,000 cans of safe drinking water distributed to communities in need

Anheuser-Busch and Silver Eagle Distributors, L.P., the nation’s largest distributor of Anheuser-Busch products, have answered government officials’ calls for community support in the aftermath of Hurricane Ike and are in the process of delivering 413,952 cans of safe drinking water to Texas residents affected by the hurricane.

“Anheuser-Busch and Silver Eagle Distributors are always ready to help our neighbors get back on their feet after disaster strikes,” said John L. Nau, III, president and CEO of Silver Eagle Distributors. “We have a long-standing commitment of giving back to the communities where we do business. We are pleased to provide safe drinking water to our neighbors and wish everyone a safe and speedy recovery.”

Eight long-haul semi-trucks, each carrying 22 pallets, or 17,248 total cases, of water are being delivered to areas that disaster relief officials have deemed as high-need communities. Additionally, the George R. Brown Convention Center, which has been serving as an evacuee staging center, will use the canned water in care packages that are being handed out to the evacuees as they leave the convention center.

“As we begin to recover from the effects of Hurricane Ike, the need for basic essentials such as water is tremendous,” said Dawn Ullrich, director of the City of Houston’s Convention & Entertainment Facilities Department, which operates the convention center.

“We are grateful for partners such as Anheuser-Busch and Silver Eagle for their support of the community during this time of need and know that the canned water will be greatly appreciated by our friends and neighbors throughout the region who are trying to put their lives back together.”

Anheuser-Busch packaged the more than 17,000 cases of drinking water last week in anticipation of Hurricane Ike, and since 1988 has donated 63.5 million cans of drinking water after natural disasters, including 2 million in just the past 18 months.
